SDCI Manages Downtown Redevelopment Projects
SDCI has recently completed a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) downtown revitalization project for the Town of Gate City (Scott County, Virginia).  The Project involved renovations and improvements to 25 buildings in the downtown district.  Funding was provided by local building owners, the Town and through the CDBG administered by the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development.

SDCI is currently working with the Town of St. Paul (Wise County, Virginia) to redevelop the Willis Building and the Old Lyric Theater.

Visit our "Recent Projects" tab to learn more about these exciting local projects.  His responsibilities include managing
the design process (architecture and engineering), grant writing, development of the business and merchandise models, and assisting with website development, marketing, and public relations.  He reports to `Round the Mountain and the Southwest Virginia Cultural Heritage Commission.

The Crooked Road: Southwest Virginia's Heritage Music initiative has engaged SDCI to complete an Economic Assessment of the program's community impact.  The work is being completed on behalf of the Crooked Road Board of Directors.  Results are expected in late 2008.

SDCI continues to work in Africa providing environmental assessment and management support for a variety of mining projects and environmental health and safety programs.  Clients include major mining firms and governmental institutions.
We continue to promote that sustainability and profitability are not competing objectives but in fact, compliment each other.  Successful companies and communities manage their resources in a holistic manner, are good stewards of the environment and good corporate citizens.

Sustainable Development is best defined as, "development that meets the needs of the present, without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs."  This definition is from the Brundtland Commission in, Our Common Future.  It includes the assessment of not only environmental concerns but also economic and social issues as well.

We believe that the integrity of our natural environment, social structures and a vibrant economy can be enhanced through well-planned and responsible development.  SDCI provides both local and international project planning, design and management for sustainable workplaces, new development, residential communities and commercial/industrial projects.
